Mark McKee is a Los Angeles based record producer, musician, songwriter, and mixer. Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Mark relocated to LA in early 2014 to further explore and build on the musical endeavors he began in his home town. After arriving in LA, he soon began working as a multi-instrumentalist playing keyboards, guitar, and bass, diving head first into the thriving LA local music scene as a sideman/accompanist. Mark continues to bring his skills as a musician on the national scale having performed all over the country with different groups and solo artists, and often acting as band leader or music director. Mark has shared the stage and/or collaborated with such notable names as Rooney (Geffen), Delta Rae (Big Machine), and Rookie of The Year (One Eleven).
Balancing life behind the glass and performing live has always been the norm since Mark was just out of high school in the small town of Cary, NC. Beginning with producing local bands, singer songwriters, and various musical projects, Mark explored the role of a producer, taking on many tasks involved including engineering, playing multiple instruments, programming, and songwriting. Prior to relocating to LA, Mark owned and operated K House Recording, a multi-room commercial studio in downtown Raleigh, NC. Having been a part of every aspect of the recording process gives Mark a special edge as a “one stop shop” guy – someone who can shepherd the whole process of making a record – whether a full album or a single – from top to bottom, without sacrificing any quality, but ultimately inspiring the best out of the artist.
Mark was recently asked in an interview about his thoughts on making music:
“The process of being in the studio with an artist, writing something completely original, and then laying it down is such a special and sacred thing that I really do cherish that this is what I get to do for a living. I’ve always had a romantic or even mystical view of what happens in the studio. My goal is to empower the artist and bring whatever skills I can to the table, whether it’s playing every instrument, or just being a reactive listener and approaching things minimally. I just try to ride the wave of the song and the moment and try to not get wiped out in the process!”
Mark has worked side by side with some of the most sought after record producers and engineers in the industry, including Howard Willing (Smashing Pumpkins, Glen Campbell, OK GO), Jon Kaplan (Jennifer Lopez, Demi Lavato, Ingrid Michaelson),Ted Comerford (Joe Walsh, Jukebox the Ghost), Jeff Juliano (Hunter Hayes, Lifehouse, O.A.R.), Bryan Cook (OneRepublic, Radiohead), Ruben Cohen (Pharrell, Far East Movement), and Joe Baldridge (Jewel, Family Force Five).
Songs Mark has written and produced have appeared on television networks The CW, The Hallmark Channel, Lifetime Movie Network, Netflix, and the American Girl Doll film series. Spanning many genres from pop, dance, country, indie, and singer-songrwriter, Mark has a heavy and focused hand in the productions he is involved in, bringing skill, passion, and ultimately creating and fostering an environment where the artist can shine to his or her brightest.
